For more than a decade OPES has encouraged its long term clients to address their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and climate change (CC). The latter represents not only a responsibility, but also an opportunity for the industry. This is primarily related to gas which is the only transition fuel from carbon to a renewable and its GHG emission is less than half of coal for power generation. Furthermore, ours is the only industry with experience in carbon, capture and storage (CCS). Accordingly, OPES has steadily acquired expertise in the above aspects of renewable energy with high potential in Australia. We have also developed specialized tools to quantify the preferred path to zero GHG emission.
Beyond CCS, geothermal, gas, solar and wind power, to tackle CC, OPES continues to acquire expertise through partners exploiting other renewable technologies in places such as the US and Europe. We are also actively involved in some of the above research projects with universities and laboratories.
